Shuttle Car Operator and Service Guide
This guide covers the required pre-operation inspections, operator controls, and key service points for the AMAC shuttle car. Watch the full walkthrough above, or use the links below to jump to the part you need.
Safety first. Always follow site safety policies and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment. Before any inspection, operation, or service, make sure the machine is parked on stable, level ground and properly secured. |
1. Pre-operation walk-around inspection
Park the machine on firm, level ground, then perform a complete walk-around inspection. Check for:
- Fluid leaks
- Damaged hoses or fittings
- Loose hardware
- Structural cracks
- Missing guards or panels
- Tire condition and inflation
- Debris in the wheel wells or engine compartment
Verify all access doors are properly latched before operation.
2. Fluid level checks
Engine oil. The dipstick sits inside the engine compartment behind the engine exhaust, with a red handle and an ID decal nearby. Remove it, wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, then remove it again to confirm the level is within the operating range. Do not operate the machine if oil is below specification.
Pump drive oil. The pump pad is bolted to the engine and drives the hydraulic pumps. Check the dipstick on the pump pad daily during pre-operation inspection.
Hydraulic oil. The hydraulic tank is on the operator side. Verify the level through the sight glass at the access door, and use only approved hydraulic oil when filling.
Engine coolant. The cooling pod is on the engine side of the discharge end. Coolant must show within range in both sight glasses. To add coolant, remove the radiator cap above the sight glasses. Never remove the radiator cap while the engine is hot or pressurized.
Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). DEF level is monitored on the operator display. The fill is on the load end, engine side, marked by a blue cap. Use only approved DEF.
Fuel. The fuel tank is on the load end, operator side, with a flip-top cap and three sight glasses for manual checks. Level also shows on the operator panel. Two primer pumps are provided: one on top of the fuel tank, and one on the fuel filter inside the engine compartment, below the turbocharger.
3. Grease points
Grease zerks are located in each wheel well (frame pins and pivot points), at the boom pivot locations, and on the front of the cab at the cab slide plate assembly. Grease at the recommended service intervals to prevent premature wear.
4. Electrical components
The electrical distribution box near the cab contains the main breaker, the alternator breaker, the strobe light switch, and the battery disconnect. Make sure the battery disconnect is engaged before startup.
5. Starting the machine
The Main Power switch is at the bottom right of the operator panel. The Engine Start button is at the upper left of the eight-button panel.
- Make sure the machine is on level ground.
- Turn the Main Power switch ON.
- Depress the brake pedal.
- Press and hold the Engine Start button until the engine starts.
A yellow light means Key On. A green light means Engine Running. Let the engine idle and verify system readings before placing the machine into motion.
6. Brake check requirement
Before changing machine direction, brake pressure must reach a minimum of 250 PSI. The brake check icon on the left display shows red for insufficient pressure and green when the requirement is met. Machine direction cannot be changed until the brake check passes.
7. Park brake
The Park Brake button is on the upper left of the operator panel. The left screen shows a red icon when the brake is engaged and a green icon when it is released. Always confirm brake status before movement.
8. Shutdown
- Return the direction selector to Neutral.
- Apply the Park Brake.
- Press the Engine Start button to shut the engine down.
- Turn the Main Power switch OFF to fully power down the machine.
9. Pedal calibration
Swipe up from the bottom of the display to open the Navigation Page, then select Pedal Calibration.
Brake calibration:
- Without pressing the brake pedal, double-tap Set Min Target.
- Fully depress the brake pedal, then double-tap Set Max Target.
Throttle calibration:
- Without pressing the accelerator, double-tap Set Min Target.
- Fully depress the accelerator, then double-tap Set Max Target.
Calibration keeps system response and control accuracy correct.
10. Steering modes
The steer selection button offers two-wheel steer, four-wheel steer, and crab steer (press and hold to engage). The current steering mode is shown on the right screen. Always verify the mode before maneuvering.
11. Joystick operation
Steering response depends on the direction of travel. Traveling toward the discharge end, pulling the joystick rearward turns the lead tires left. Traveling toward the load end, pulling the joystick rearward turns the lead tires right.
Joystick functions: the white button raises the cab (momentary), the black button lowers the cab (momentary), and the scroll knob adjusts conveyor chain speed. Conveyor speed is shown on the left screen from zero to one hundred percent.
12. Seat control panel
The six-button panel works as follows. Top row: Work Mode (High, Low, Inch), Boom Up, and Conveyor Forward (latching). Bottom row: High Speed Travel, Boom Down, and Conveyor Reverse (momentary hold). Inch mode sets the engine to high idle while limiting travel speed for precise control.
The seat swivel is released using the T-latch behind the joystick. Seat height, forward and backward position, recline, and armrest height are all adjustable.
13. Camera system
Cameras include two load-end cameras, a fire suppression bay camera, a cooling pod camera facing the discharge, and a ProVix camera mounted to the front of the cab. Monitor the camera feeds on the right display during operation.
14. Emergency stop switches
Emergency stops are located at the discharge end (engine side wheel well), the load end (engine side wheel well), the load end (operator side wheel well), and inside the operator cab. Activating any E-stop immediately disables machine operation, and reset procedures must be completed before restart.
15. Service jack operation
Park on firm, level ground before operating the service jacks, and operate them only on stable, level surfaces to prevent the machine from shifting. The 12-button service jack panel is above the hydraulic tank. Jacks may be operated individually, by axle group, or all four at once.
16. Filter locations
- Air filter: discharge engine-side wheel well
- Engine oil filter: lower right of the engine compartment
- Hydraulic filters: behind the pump configuration
- Emergency pump hydraulic filter: under the hydraulic tank
- DEF filter: inside the DEF control module
Replace filters according to the maintenance schedule.
